Barnardo's are looking for a very special kind of volunteer to help us to make the most of opportunities to enagage people with our work and make opportunities to raise funds with groups and organisations in the area.

Purpose of opportunity:
You must be willing to travel and be confident in front of a variety of groups from schools to Rotary Clubs. The Volunteer Speaker role involves engaging with members of the public to inform them about the work of Barnardo¿s, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, or simply thanking our supporters for their donation. The Volunteer Speaker also plays a critical role in supporting the Community Fundraiser for that region, helping to ensure excellent customer service is provided to all our supporters.

Key activities:

1. To address groups of young people and adults. (Community groups, WI, Rotary Clubs, Business Lunches /Breakfasts, etc.) Informing the audience about the work of Barnardo's via presentation and DVD.
2. To encourage financial support and receive and bank monies on behalf of Barnardo's. This often involves a photo opportunity as many of our supporters like to have a representative attend the location for a personal thank you.
3. Seek bookings to speak on behalf of Barnardo's.
4. To monitor and build up profile of useful contacts and feedback to Community Fundraiser.

Minimum commitment is 6 months

Attitude/skills/knowledge required:
Good overall communication skills (verbal, written and telephone)

Presentation skills and the ability to vary presentation to suit different audiences

Ability to speak to a variety of community groups with confidence and enthusiasm

Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
