I see that police are offering parents the choice as to whether or not to know if their children were abused.
I have some experience dealing with men who have been abused.
Authority in general has a heavy-handed approach to everything it touches, and always sees things in terms of what can go wrong.
As these children are so young, if you involve authority, you are guaranteed to scar your children.
If you simply put it behind you, and give love freely to your children, it has a chance to evaporate like a bad nightmare.
The children probably have no memory of the abuse.
However, if authority and parents keep the memory alive with negative energy, then harm is probable.
My advice is not to keep the event a secret from the children, as they will almost certainly find out sooner or later - and probably in a very negative way.
Just say that some children were not treated as well as they might be, and leave it at that.
If the child, then or later, asks questions, answer them honestly.
Remember, it is the quality of your love that counts.
See if you can view this as a challenge for you to overcome, for this experience is stretching you as parents, perhaps developing you as human beings.
Remember that your response defines who you are.
Remember also that a child's mind is like a blank hard drive; each experience builds concepts for the developing child.
Ask yourself if something is crude and fear-based, or loving and nourishing.
Which experience would you choose for your child?
Examine the values of our society, and see what works, and what is worthless.
This event did not arise by itself; it reflects the deep unhappiness across society which is swept under the carpet.
Good luck! :-)
